چکیده
This article recounts the rather wonderful interaction of topology and singularity theory which began to flower in the 1960’s with the work of Hirzebruch, Brieskorn, Milnor and others. This interaction can be traced back to the work of Klein, Lefschetz and Picard, and also to the work of knot theorists at the beginning of this century. It continues to the present day, flourishing and expanding in many directions. However, this is not a survey article, but a history; the events of our time are harder to see in perspective, harder to marshal into coherent order, and their very multitude makes it impossible to recount them all. Hence this interaction is followed forward in only a few directions. 1 The reader may get a sense of the current state of affairs in singularity theory by browsing in the conference proceedings [Orl83, LSE95]. The focus of this article is singularities of complex algebraic varieties. Real varieties are omitted. Also omitted from this account is the area of critical points of

Rings of Singularities
This paper is a slightly revised version of an introduction into singularity theory corresponding to a series of lectures given at the ``Advanced School and Conference on homological and geometrical methods in representation theory'' at the International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP), Miramare - Trieste, Italy, 11-29 January 2010. We show how to associate to a triple of posit...

The future singularities are possible in a universe that is described by F(R) theory. In previous studies the occurrence of the singularities in F(R) theory have been considered by using a special function for the Hubble parameter and calculating the F(R) function for each of the singularities. Using the specified Hubble parameter causes some difficulties in the study of the second law of therm...
متن کاملSolution of Harmonic Problems with Weak Singularities Using Equilibrated Basis Functions in Finite Element Method
In this paper, Equilibrated Singular Basis Functions (EqSBFs) are implemented in the framework of the Finite Element Method (FEM), which can approximately satisfy the harmonic PDE in homogeneous and heterogeneous media. EqSBFs are able to automatically reproduce the terms consistent with the singularity order in the vicinity of the singular point. The newly made bases are used as the compliment...
متن کاملInfinite product representation of solution of indefinite SturmLiouville problem
In this paper, we investigate infinite product representation of the solution of a Sturm- Liouville equation with an indefinite weight function which has two zeros and/or singularities in a finite interval. First, by using of the asymptotic estimates provided in [W. Eberhard, G. Freiling, K. Wilcken-Stoeber, Indefinite eigenvalue problems with several singular points and turning points, Math. N...
متن کاملDynkin Graphs and Triangle Singularities
In Arnold’s classification list of singularities (Arnold [1].) we find interesting singularities to be studied. Though we find singularities of any dimension in Arnold’s list, we consider singularities of dimension two in particular. Among them there is a class called exceptional singularities or triangle singularities. This class consists of fourteen singularities. It is known that they are cl...
متن کاملThe Deterministic Generation of Extreme Surface Water Waves Based on Soliton on Finite Background in Laboratory
This paper aims to describe a deterministic generation of extreme waves in a typical towing tank. Such a generation involves an input signal to be provided at the wave maker in such a way that at a certain position in the wave tank, say at a position of a tested object, a large amplitude wave emerges. For the purpose, we consider a model called a spatial-NLS describing the spatial propagation o...
